Out-of school
activities for children with special needs The need for out-of-school hours provision was first identified through Ellen Tinkham Schools’ Parent Support Group in 2000. This resulted in Summer Schools being organised between 2001 and 2003. In 2004 The Hollow Lane Club was established as an independent registered charity, having increased the range of club sessions, developed activities geographically and broadened access. We now run regular clubs in Exeter and Okehampton and support two further groups in Crediton and Barnstaple. Our current programme of activity includes - • After School Club • Saturday Clubs • Holiday Playschemes The Hollow Lane Clubs are open to children with special needs between the ages of 3 and 19. The emphasis is on fun and creativity and a wide range of activities are planned. Outings are frequently organised to places of local interest and enjoyment. All our staff are carefully recruited, have appropriate qualifications and experience of working with children with special needs and are CRB checked. We work closely with parents and carers, our staff, key workers from the Joint Agency Teams and Social Services, local respite services and paediatric consultants. The Hollow Lane Club enhances the quality of life for its participants by enabling children and young people with special needs to enjoy the fun, creativity and community that out-of-school clubs can offer. While the children and young people enjoy themselves, parents and carers have some welcome respite time to spend with other children and family members, knowing that their child is being well supported in an appropriate environment. |
